Peppermint is another very common oil for many people to begin their oily journey. When I diffuse this in our diffuser, my kids often tell me that it smells like candy canes and is delicious. And you know what? I completely agree. Peppermint is one of the most refreshing aromas out there, in my opinion. So let’s learn a little bit more about this affordable essential oil.
Making Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint, also known as Mentha piperita, is steam distilled by Young Living. The leaves and stems are the portions of the plant used to make the essential oil. While much of the peppermint crops are grown within the United States, Young Living brings a majority of its crop from India. I have used many many different brands of peppermint essential oil during my journey to find my favorite essential oil brand, and I can say without a doubt that Young Living provides the best smelling and refreshing peppermint oil that I’ve tried. It is by far the most effective brand of peppermint essential oil that I have tried.
Using Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint is an amazing oil to help focus the mind. As a homeschool Mom, it is a powerful tool to diffuse around the homeschool table to help sharpen the senses and focus the mind. It also produces a cooling sensation which can be refreshing after a hot day of work and relieving for those fatigued muscles. In these cases, it is best to dilute the oil with a carrier oil and apply to the affected area. Peppermint can also be useful in relieving queasiness from bugs or motion. I love to put a few drops in my homemade lip balm and in my peppermint brownies!
Blends and Items Containing Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint is used to make many different Young Living oils. Some of my favorites are the cooling blends that can be applied to the skin and muscles after a hard day of work, PanAway and the Deep Relief Roll-On. It is also found in the digestive support blend, DiGize, and the refreshing, deep-breathing support blends, Raven and R.C. I also love the refreshing smell of the mint within Young Living’s Lavender Mint Shampoo and Conditioner.
You can find peppermint through most oil companies. However, it is critical to find a company that takes pride in their products and guarantees their purity and efficacy. Young Living is the only oil company I recommend. You can purchase peppermint oil through Young Living, as well as the products which peppermint is contained. If you purchase the membership with the Young Living Premium Starter Kit, you also get peppermint essential oil as one of the eleven essential oils. The starter kit is the best value option, and you can read about it in my article Your Guide to the Young Living Premium Starter Kit.
